Students interested in singing excerpts from Carmina Burana with the UMass Amherst choral singers at the Massachusetts ACDAHigh School and Collegiate Choir Festival on 10/24 should sign up in the choir room as soon as possible.  Recommended students must be registered by October 4.  Spots are limited because we have to send balanced quartets. Students who commit to participating in the Festival must attend weekly rehearsals either on Thursday afternoons at 2:45 or Friday afternoons at 2:00 in order to be prepared on the day of the festival.  The festival is all day from 7:00 am, when we leave ARHS, with a concert at 5:30 pm.   Tickets are $10.  Depending on how many students are interested, there will either be bus transportation or car pool.

CDMMEA, District Auditions will take place on 11/14, (11/21 snow date). The time will be announced later.   Students interested in auditioning should sign up in the choir room by Wednesday, September 30.  We’ll have a learning session at 2:00 that day to work on the audition piece, Per la gloria d’adorarvi, by Bononcini.  It can be found in the Twenty-four Italian Songs and Arias.  The District Festival will consist of rehearsal on Wednesday, 1/13 and Friday, 1/15 from 3-9 and a dress rehearsal at Mechanics hall on Saturday, 1/16, and a concert at 4:00 pm.  Bus transportation is provided to and from the rehearsals on Wednesday and Friday, and to the dress rehearsal on Saturday.  Tickets to the concert will be on sale at the rehearsals and parents attend the concert and transport the student home.

If a student scores well enough on the district audition, he or she will be eligible for All-State Auditions on 1/23, (1/24 snow date) time to be announce later.  The MMEA All-State Festival takes place in Boston from 3/10-3/12.  Students will stay at the Seaport or Renaissance Hotel on Thursday and Friday.

It is very important that students and parents check their calendars carefully.  Absences aren’t allowed and your students who accept are taking a place from someone else who would really like to participate.  So, to back out because of scheduling errors would be very bad form.
